What are the responsibilities and job description for the REC - Water Safety Instructor position at City of Sun Prairie?
Under the leadership of the Pool Manager and Aquatics Program Coordinator, Water Safety Instructors (WSI’s) are responsible for providing a safe and fun swim-lesson program in accordance with the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program at the Sun Prairie Family Aquatic Center.
Dates Needed: May - August
Hours: 6-20 hours/week (If candidate possesses current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification, there is the opportunity for additional lifeguarding hours). Hours will vary and may take place Monday Thursday between 9:00 am and 6:30 pm.

Major Duties/Essential Functions |

- Must be 16 years or older
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred
- One year of Swim Lessons experience preferred
- Experience working in an aquatic facility setting is desired
- Knowledge of all American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program levels
- Ability and willingness to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
- Ability and willingness to perform a variety of tasks
- Ability and willingness to keep accurate records and complete all necessary paperwork
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public in a courteous and tactful manner
- Provide clear communication to and from supervisor and the public
- Regular and punctual attendance.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions

- Variety of swim lesson equipment such as barbells, kickboards, noodles, pull buoys, etc.
- First Aid Supplies
- Must be 16 years or older
- Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or ability to obtain certification prior to the first day of swim lessons, preferred
- Able/willing to work flexible hours
- Able/willing to work in an outdoor work environment with exposure to the weather
