What are the responsibilities and job description for the Labor Supervisor - Water/Sewer Maintenance position at City of Midland?
Supervises the construction and maintenance of water distribution systems and wastewater collection systems.
- Schedules, monitors, evaluates the work and performs disciplinary, and motivation of subordinates.
- Instructs and oversees employees in the proper use, care and preventative maintenance of equipment and machinery.
- Instructs and oversees employees in safety to them and the public in accordance with local and state regulations.
- Reviews plans, reports deficiencies, makes recommendations.
- Responds to and resolves customer complaints and questions, from contractors and others regarding the water and wastewater system.
- Determines construction and installation requirements for projects.
- To assure quality, efficiency and compliance with city, and state regulatory requirements associated with safe delivery of potable water and proper collection and transportation of wastewater.
- Must be able to work after hours (scheduled or unscheduled), weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to work rotating call duty.
- Communicate and locate water and wastewater lines for utility companies and construction personnel.
- Performs related duties as required.
Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from worksites. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures maintaining and constructing of water mains and wastewater mains and other repairs. Employee will be exposed to hazardous chemical gases, disease, electric lines, gas lines, communication lines, traffic and other materials while in field. Employee will be exposed to sitting, bending, stooping, lifting and climbing into small and deep confine areas. Employee is exposed to lifting pumps, valves fitting, pipe and other necessary equipment to complete the task.
Ability to effectively communicate with employees or citizens, in order to receive work orders or instructions for any project. Employee will contact repair personnel, and vendors to obtain quotes or bids and to determine repair costs. Employee will communicate with contractors and utility inspector to ensure quality.
Ability to read, interpret and understand work orders, equipment manuals, water and wastewater mapping system and local, state regulations. Knowledge on procedures used in utility maintenance and construction. Skill in the use and operation of power tools, materials and equipment such as pumps, backhoe, dump truck, vacuum truck and several heavy equipment. Ability to draw plans for traffic control, knowledge on ditch and hole shoring and confine space.
High school diploma or equivalent plus five years experience in water and wastewater maintenance and construction. Valid Texas Class "A" Driver License. Must posses or be able to obtain a Wastewater Class II and Water Distribution C Certification within a reasonable length of time.
