Job Description
The City of Minnetonka is seeking an energetic team-focused person to fulfill the duties of community development permit technician. This full-time position reports to the assistant city planner and supports building-related permitting and inspection activities of the community development department.
Duties/Responsibilities
Essential Job Funtions
- Provide service to customers in person, by email and on the phone
- Provide accurate and timely information regarding permits to contractors, homeowners, and the general public
- Maintain an accurate database of all permit applications
- Intake, process, and route permit applications
- Issue permits and collect permit fees
- Schedule inspections for multiple inspectors
- Intake, process, and route permit applications for other communities that contract with the City of Minnetonka
- Schedule inspections for other communities that contract with the City of Minnetonka
- Maintain accurate contractor database to ensure contractors are properly licensed
- Issue water meters, collect fees, and maintain accurate meter information
- Balance cash register and credit card receipts
- Perform other duties and assume responsibilities as apparent or assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- A commitment to and belief in the organization's shared values
- High school diploma or GED
- Three years of general clerical experience
- Demonstrated skill in spelling, grammar, mathematics and computer applications
- Ability to communicate effectively, efficiently and professionally
- Excellent organization and customer service skills
- Experience in customer service role
- Experience working in local, county or state government or within the construction industry
- Experience working as a permit technician
- Building permit technician certification
- Trained in conflict resolution
