Community Development Building Official
The City of Mission is seeking qualified, engaged candidates to join the Community Development team in the role of Building Official. This role is responsible for oversight of the Building Safety Services division. They will perform commercial and residential plan review, field inspections, and technical work in connection with the enforcement of City codes and ICC building codes. The Building Official will oversee and direct the work of the Building Inspector and Administrative Assistant/Permit Technician.
Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will have experience with regulatory codes and ordinances pertaining to the construction and maintenance of the built environment within the City of Mission. This candidate is responsible for the planning review and inspection processes and activities from permit application to issuance of final certificate of occupancy. They will evaluate and analyze various life safety systems and components for compliance with building code and national standards. They will review and analyze architectural and/or engineering plans and specifications and other data to assure compliance with the City’s adopted codes. This candidate will conduct inspections and witness various tests throughout the inspection process in order to ensure compliance with approved construction documents and City adopted codes. The candidate who fills this role will meet with design professionals, developers, owners and contractors in the preliminary process of design and construction. In addition, this person will provide telephone and/or walk-in assistance to the public regarding code requirements and interpretations.
Internally, this candidate will provide technical support and performance guidance to the Administrative Assistant and Building Inspector and will prepare staff analysis and reports and will make presentations to the Code Board of Appeals.
Qualifications
· High School diploma or GED equivalent
· Must have a valid driver’s license
· Must possess certification or the ability to gain certification from the International Code Council as a Combination Inspector and Residential Plans Examiner upon hire.
· The ability to obtain certification from the International Codes Council as a Combination Plans Examiner within 1-year of hire is preferred.
Experience/Compensation
· Three years of experience as a multi-disciplined commercial and residential inspector and/or examiner, or six years of equivalent experience. Experience should be working with all phases of modern construction practices and building codes or six years of practical experience in the construction industry.
· Salary Range $72,458 to $105,065; Dependent on Qualifications
