- Maintain and repair all wastewater treatment plant equipment and boilers; fit plastic, PVC, copper, and steel pipes.
- Maintain and repair all compost facility equipment and its components, including front end loaders, grinders, trommel screens, and trucks, as necessary.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical problems.
- Install various equipment components, such as: motors, pumps, compressors, blowers, pneumatic equipment, electrical equipment, flow meters, regulators, etc.
- Perform equipment inspections to ensure safety and proper functionality.
- Coordinate service schedules and preventive maintenance on equipment in compliance with recommended specifications and timetables.
- Maintain and enter maintenance records into the computerized maintenance system.
- Develop and implement solutions to equipment safety problems.
- Perform various janitorial duties to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the treatment plant and compost facility.
- Provide backup support to Plant Operators and/or Compost Operators.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
- Knowledge of the wastewater treatment equipment, operations, and functions, including head works, clarifiers, digesters, fermenters, centrifuges, odor control, ultra-violet disinfection, pumps, dissolved air flotation tanks, etc.
- Knowledge of the compost facility equipment, operations, and functions.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of wastewater treatment maintenance and repair, including mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Knowledge of welding techniques and practices, including arc, TIG, and MIG welding, and utilizing oxygen, acetylene, and plasma torches.
- Knowledge of and ability to promote and interpret safe work practices and ensure compliance with City and department safety policies, and OSHAstandards andguidelines.
- Skill in utilizing various computer software and databases, including Microsoft 365, and the ability to learn job-specific applications and equipment.
- Skill performing maintenance and repairs to various industrial equipment.
- Skill in following oral and written instructions, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Skill in reading and understanding various repair manuals.
- Skill in managing multiple projects with shifting priorities and timeline demands.
- Skill in organization, time management and prioritizing with the proven ability to have keen attention to detail and accuracy in performing work with adherence to strict deadlines.
- Skill in communicating, in person and writing, with the proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals.
- Ability to operate small power equipment, hand tools, and light equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
- Ability to maintain current knowledge, developments, and trends related to specific area of focus and/or assigned projects.

- Position requires the ability to lift and maneuver 75 lbs. or less.
- Work environment may involve exposure to unavoidable weather conditions, occupational hazards, chemicals, biohazards, construction hazards, and physical risks, including working in confined spaces or high traffic areas, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Duties may require the use of fixed and portable ladders to gain access to roofs or entering tanks and basins.
- Position may require on-call and/or overtime hours, as needed.
- Any combination of training and experience equivalent to three (3) years’ experience in public utility operations, industrial facility maintenance, heavy equipment repair, or another relevant field.
- Must have a valid Montana driver’s license with a verified acceptable driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
