This position falls under the Civil Service's adopted step pay matrix.
This is a full-time Civil-Service position. The Fire Specialist will perform duties in accordance with department initiatives resulting in excellent service delivery consistent with a High-Performing Organization in the Missouri City Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS).
An individual assigned to Fire Operations in this position will protect life and property by fighting fires, respond to emergency incidents, utilizes Emergency Medical Services skills, and engage in public education, station and equipment.
An individual assigned to the Prevention Division in this position will perform technical fire inspection assignments to ensure compliance with fire codes, state and federal laws, city ordinances and related regulations.
Reporting relationship: Fire Lieutenant and/or Division Chief
OPERATIONS DIVISION
• Respond to emergency incidents by safely driving various apparatus in accordance with federal, state, county and city laws, department policies and rules and regulations. Perform firefighting, rescue duties, deliver emergency medical services; document emergency services delivery and related incidents; ensure that departmental guidelines, regulations and medical protocols are followed; perform daily apparatus inspections, maintenance and apparatus readiness; perform minor equipment and apparatus repairs and/or maintenance; complete required documentation and reports; safety Officer duties; ride-up duties; ensure that departmental guidelines, regulations and medical protocols are followed; provide tours of a fire-station and/or apparatus; deliver fire community risk reduction – fire prevention and safety presentations to the public; conduct pre-fire planning and conduct courtesy home fire smoke detector inspections, installation and maintenance; attend and complete related training; assist with company level training; participate in and assist the training division as needed; maintain continuous situational awareness, adherence and compliance with City and Department policies and procedures; maintain personal physical fitness and participate in on-duty physical fitness activities; perform other related duties as assigned; subject to 24 hour recall.
PREVENTION DIVISION
• Conduct new and existing business fire inspections and re-inspections, review new and existing building construction plans, may attend pre-construction meetings, may attend planning department meetings; On-call Fire Investigator duties including but not limited to conduct fire investigations to determine the origin of fire, complete investigative reports; conduct field witness interviews; reconstruct fire scenes; remove samples for lab review; follow-up with field interviews and tips; hold scenes for arson investigators; fulfill court duty as required; assist and support fire arson investigators on Arson fires; assist with fire suppression duties when needed, assist with emergency management as directed, conduct fire prevention programs, respond to customers complaints and follow up as necessary; research existing building codes as applicable; respond to emergency incidents by supervising and performing firefighting, rescue and emergency medical operations; ensure that departmental guidelines, regulations and medical protocols are followed; safety Officer duties; Perform other related duties as assigned; subject to 24 hour recall.

Required:
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate
- Two years of continuous service as a Missouri City Fire & Rescue Services Department Firefighter
- Certified at a minimum Basic Firefighter from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP)
- Certified at a minimum Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) by the Texas Department of State Health
