What are the responsibilities and job description for the DAY CAMP ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR position at City of Monroe (NC)?
Performs responsible human support work assisting Day Camp Supervisor in planning, organizing and supervising the Day Camp program offered by the Monroe Aquatics and Fitness Center; does related work as required. The Day Camp Assistant Supervisor is a seasonal position that works when camp activities are available. Work is performed under the supervision of the Program Supervisor and Day Camp Supervisor.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, and some medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, peripheral vision, operation of equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and noise. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Assisting with the planning and implementing of weekly programs and activities for children and providing a positive summer camp participant experience. Assists with purchasing supplies and equipment. Receives and maintains records of payments of camp fees. Oversees paperwork, reports and accounts payable as it pertains to day camp. Establishes and maintains open communication and positive working relationships with Day Camp Supervisor, staff, parents, and children. Resolves conflicts and/or violations of rules with parents and children. Assists with supervision of day camp staff. Coordinates daily transportation schedules for trips. Ensures day camp facility is kept clean and sanitary. Manages emergencies in a calm effective manner. Ensures the safety of campers. Acts as Supervisor when Camp Supervisor is not on site. Performs related task as required.
General knowledge of child care practices and techniques; general knowledge of children's developmental and social growth expectations and needs; general knowledge of health, safety and first aid practices, methods and techniques; skill in working with children; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with parents, staff, associates and program participants.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education equivalent to graduation from high school. Must be at least 19 years of age. Must have at least 2 years’ experience working with and supervising children in a group setting.
Possession of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Basic First Aid certifications. Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Must be flexible with working times between 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday thru Friday.
