The part-time Child Care Teacher plans, organizes, and participates in a variety of educational and socialization activities for the City's After School Child Care and Tiny Tot programs; provides instruction and direction for enrollees; and performs related work as required.
The Child Care Teacher should have knowledge of child development and related activities; behavior management methods for children; food and nutrition for children; state and local regulations for licensed child care facilities; basic principles of supervision and training. The Child Care Teacher should have the skills and abilities to check activities, inspect facilities and equipment for safety; perform a wide variety of teaching and caregiving for children; analyze problems / situations and take appropriate action in accordance with applicable policies and procedures; understand and carry out oral written instructions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective relationships; meet the public and their children with courtesy and tact; maintain appropriate records. Requires occasional physical effort including walking, running, bending, stooping, climbing, carrying and / or lifting children, equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
- High School graduation or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Twelve (12) college units in Child Development, of which (6) units must be in Early Child Education
- Certification by either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association in Child / Infant CPR
- Certification by the American Red Cross in First Aid
- Valid Class C California's Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record is required and a condition of continuing employment
QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Candidates whose qualifications and experience best meet the needs of the City will be invited to an oral appraisal interview. The oral appraisal interview will evaluate the background and personal qualifications of each candidate. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an invitation to further testing.
