Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

  • A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is todevelop strategies for analyzing, planning, development, and administration ofa city / county wide emergency management training and exercise program with anemphasis on the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) and state and local MedicalCountermeasure (MCM) plans. Thisposition needs strong project management skills, teamwork talents, and utilizesgood facilitation, planning, training and exercise design skills; to include avariety of administrative task involving grant coordination and maintenance ofthe SNS / MCM programs. The workresponsibilities are coordinates and manages the planning and exercise trainingof the SNS program; trains, coordinates and manages skilled personnel involvedin exercises; maintains, organizes and manages grant funds; serves in variousroles during Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations; serves on arotating basis as Staff Duty Officer; and assists in implementing emergencymanagement policies and procedures. Workprograms will be developed and approved by the Director of Emergency ManagementAgency; however, this employee must exercise initiative and judgment incarrying out the above-mentioned tasks.Direct supervision is received from the Director of Emergency ManagementAgency.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor‘s degree in EmergencyManagement, Political Science, Public Administration, Business Administration,or a related field and two (2) years of professional experience in coordinatingemergency measures or services to include management, planning, and training. NOTE :  Qualifying education, training, and experience that provides therequisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will beconsidered.

Special Requirements

Must be willing to be on call 24 hours a day inorder to activate the Emergency Operations Center during natural, manmade, ortechnological disasters or hazards. May also be required to report to the sceneof an actual disaster as needed. Must have and maintain a valid Alabama driver'slicense to operate City Vehicles. Must be willing to attend out-of-towntraining which may require overnight stay as needed.

Kind of Examination

The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Emergency Management Office.
