Description of Work

The City of Monticello is currently accepting applications for part-time facility attendants to perform custodial duties and light maintenance at our City buildings. Daytime and evening shifts are available. Applicants must have a valid Class D MN Driver's license.

General Statement of Duties : Performs daily routine janitorial maintenance at multiple city buildings including assisting with general maintenance of the buildings including painting and preventative maintenance tasks; Ensures all city facilities are maintained with a safety and clean environment for all patrons; Performs related duties as required.

Supervision Received : Works under the general and technical direction of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor; Receives work direction from full-time Facilities staff and management staff.

Typical Duties Performed

The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in this class. Duties may vary somewhat from position to position within a class.

  • Cleans multiple city facilities; removes trash and recycling and replenishes supplies in bathrooms and locker rooms.
  • Performs set-ups and tear-downs for events and rentals to ensure rooms are ready for use and set up appropriately.
  • Responds to requests for assistance from Community Center staff, facilities staff and patrons.
  • Cleans and maintains entrances and sidewalks; removes snow and mows grounds as needed.
  • Performs opening and / or closing procedures for the Community Center building as assigned.
  • Performs and logs necessary tests on pool water to ensure compliance with Department of Health guidelines and MCC policies.
  • Assists with a variety of cleaning and routine maintenance tasks during shutdown.
  • Lifts and moves equipment, furniture and boxes as required.
  • Assists with special projects such as painting and preventative maintenance as assigned.
  • Assists other city departments as directed.
  • Performs other duties as needed or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of the cleaning of heavy use buildings, including : tools, equipment, cleaning chemicals, and standard practices in the field.
  • Working knowledge of Community Center policies, procedures and rules.
  • Considerable skill in cleaning heavy-use recreation and fitness buildings.
  • Considerable ability to perform thorough disinfecting and cleaning tasks on a multitude of surfaces and finishes.
  • Considerable ability to follow oral and written instruction, to complete daily activities according to work schedule to complete daily activities according to work schedule, prioritize work and perform duties independently.
  • Considerable ability in meeting customer needs with a positive attitude and in a manner that reflects good customer service.
  • Considerable ability to travel to various city buildings via foot or city vehicle.
  • Working ability to locate, read and understand Safety Data Sheets.
  • Working ability to establish and maintain good working relationships and communicate effectively with City staff and the general public.

    • WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Duties are performed primarily in public community buildings with occasional work outdoors.
  • The work requires exposure to workplace hazards such as chemicals from cleaning products and the pool area and biological hazards such as potential contact with bodily fluids while carrying out clean-up duties.

    • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THIS JOB

  • Hear and speak effectively to communicate in person or by phone with city staff and the public.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Use large motor skills to perform manual and maintenance work, involving regular standing, walking, bending, moderately heavy to heavy lifting and carrying, twisting, turning, climbing and maintaining balance, crouching, standing, walking, kneeling, reaching, working at heights of over 10 feet and pushing and pulling.
  • Frequently reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds from the floor.

  • MN Class D Driver's License

  • Previous janitorial experience.
  • Certified Pool Operator's license.
  • General building maintenance.
