SUMMARY OF POSTING : The City of Morgan Hill is recruiting for a part time, temporary Utility Worker I. This is an hourly and unbenefited position with an estimated employment duration of 4 months, working 40 hours per week. This position will assist in cleaning out meter boxes, replacing water meters, and site maintenance.
JOB SUMMARY : Under direct supervision of the Utility Supervisor, performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance of water supply and wastewater collection system facilities and appurtenances; performs related work as required.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS : Utility Worker I is the entry level class in this maintenance series responsible for the operation of equipment, vehicles and power tools in the course of duty. This class is distinguished from other Utility Workers in this series based on the experience level and certificates required at time of hire.

The following duties are performed personally, in cooperation with Utility Worker II, Senior Utility Workers and the Utility Supervisor, and / or in coordination with other City staff and community groups. Additional duties may be assigned.
Answer inquiries from citizens regarding work performed.
Maintain accurate records of work performed.
Assist other maintenance crews in emergency situations.
Assist utility crew replacing water meters

The work environment indoors is usually in a temperature-controlled office.
While performing the duties of this job outdoors, the employee often works in varying weather conditions, visiting developed and undeveloped sites in various stages of construction.
Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but the employee may occasionally be exposed to high level noises including but not limited to outdoor construction equipment.
Part-time, temporary positions are non-benefitted, at-will positions. Part-time employees are enrolled in the PARS retirement system and the employee pays 7.5%, which is deducted from the employees' payroll check. The PARS retirement system is in lieu of participating in social security. Part-time employees participate in the Medicare portion of social security as that is a required program.
You may accrue up to 40 hours a year in sick leave based on the number of hours worked within the year.
