No Supervisory FunctionsBASIC FUNCTIONThis position protects life and property through controlling, extinguishing, and preventing fires;provides advanced life support; regularly maintain Emergency Medical Service (EMS) andfirefighting equipment, apparatus, and quarters; responds to emergency medical incidents, andman-made and natural disasters. In emergency situations, perform in high stress situations,hazardous tasks requiring strenuous physical exertion for extended periods of time in crampedsurroundings, challenging EMS incidents, hot, smoky environments with limited visibility, and atconsiderable heights. Work is usually performed under the direction of a commanding officer,although individuals may exercise independent judgment in emergency situations.NOTE : This position may not serve as a volunteer member of the Moscow Volunteer FireDepartment.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to performthese essential functions.RESPONDS TO MEDICAL EMERGENCIES : Deliver appropriate and compassionate care and treatment of sick or injured individualssuffering from non-urgent to life-threatening problems based on the individual needs ofthe patient and in accordance with the City of Moscow and Moscow Fire Departmentpolicies, procedures, and guidelines and the protocols established by the EMS MedialDirector.PARAMEDIC FUNCTIONSPARAMEDIC / FIREFIGHTERRevised : 12 / 10 / 2024Under established protocols or the direct instructions of a physician, applies advancedlife support skills to triage, rescue, and treat injuries or ill persons.Responds to medical emergencies throughout the city & county as needed.Provides patient care functions, including but not limited to gathering patientinformation and medical history, performing patient exams, formulating a plan fortreatment, and rendering treatment consistent with patient care protocols and / orinstructions.Obtains information from and provides explanation / counseling to patients, relatives,and others involved related to the emergency.Directs medical activities at multiple patient scenes or mass casualty incidents untilrelieved by a qualified supervisor, performs triage.Maintains the confidentiality of patient information as required by law. Completesmedical incident reports, records patient information, completes incident and billingforms and forwards files as required by established protocols or practice.Inspects, tests, and maintains emergency aid equipment as needed through cleaningand / or sanitizing.Performs periodic maintenance checks, repair, or referral for repair or replacement.Maintains emergency vehicle and equipment in orderly and sanitary condition.Attends continuing education as required by the department to maintain skills as well ascertification.Delivers advanced life support therapies and interventions including the administrationof various medications in multiple forms and routes.RESPONDS TO TECHNICAL RESCUE AND HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INCIDENTSEffectively applies technical knowledge to solve complex problems regarding the rescuepersons or property, often under diverse and stressful circumstances. Anticipatesvarious outcome s, makes appropriate decisions, and acts deliberately in emergencyscenarios. Activities will generally be limited to operations level; however, somepersonnel may be trained at a technician level and / or as an instructor.PERFORMS FIRE SUPPRESSION ACTIVITIESPerforms extremely strenuous physical work while wearing self-contained breathingapparatus (SCBA), under the following conditions : Selects and deploys various hose lines and nozzles up to 5 inches in diameter to be usedto direct water or chemicals onto fire.
