Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
This position provides customer service to patrons of the Larson Recreation Center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Opens facility to the public at the start of the day; closes and locks facility.
- Assists customers in person, by telephone, or by email; provides information and assistance.
- Monitors and supervises activity in the facility and reports or addresses any issues.
- May set up or reset rooms for various programs/rentals/activities.
- Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance; refers visitors to appropriate personnel.
- Assists the public with registering for programs, acquiring or renewing memberships, and scheduling facility rentals at the Larson Recreation Center.
- Reconciles cash drawer and prepares bank deposits; reconciles online payments; processes payments received by mail.
- Relays visitor comments, suggestions, and requests to appropriate staff.
- Monitors registers to ensure adequate change is available; makes change at the bank as needed. Follows cash handling procedures and protocols established by the Business Manager.
- Maintains a clean and organized environment.
- Designs posters and flyers for events and shows.
- Tracks Larson Recreation Center visitors.
- May provide administrative support to Recreation Division staff at times, at the discretion of the Recreation Supervisor.
- Performs daily facility rounds to ensure a save and clean facility for visitors.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
- Knowledge of City and Larson Recreation Center policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
- Skill in the provision of customer services.
- Skill in the use of such office equipment as a computer, scanner, fax machine, and copier.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Bilingual English/Spanish speaking ability highly desired.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Recreation Coordinator assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Guidelines include City and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of related customer service duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to perform customer service and building supervision duties in support of Larson Recreation Center operations. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.
- The work schedule for this position includes early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

- Contacts are typically with co-workers, other City employees, and members of the general public.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.
- The work is typically performed at the Larson Recreation Center front desk.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the essential functions of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License.

This position is eligible for Department of Retirement Systems - Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), pro-rate holiday pay, sick leave of one (1) hour for every 40 hours worked, and pro-rated vacation accrual based on number of hours worked.
