Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Day Camp Supervisor and the Lead Teacher, the Day Camp Leader will help implement and lead daily recreational activities for children ages 5-12 attending the City of Moses Lake day camp program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in leading the daily scheduled camp activities, field trips, swimming, and special events of the summer day camp program for youth ages 5-12 years old.
- Teach various activities including, but not limited to arts and crafts, nature-oriented activities, games, sports, and songs.
- Serve as a positive role model for other staff and program participants at all times.
- Interact with children of all ages in all activities throughout the workday.
- Work closely with other staff in an enthusiastic, cooperative, and supportive manner.
- Assist the Site Supervisor/Lead Teacher in the implementation of behavior management plans for the entire program and individual participants as needed.
- Always maintain the safety of participating children and staff.
- Render first aid in case of minor injury.
- Assist in cleaning program areas and store equipment and supplies at the end of each day.
- Attend required staff training and other meetings.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Recreation Supervisor and Day Camp Supervisor assign work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include Moses Lake Parks and Recreation, and Larson Recreation Center policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of working with youth and parents to assist in Day Camp operations.

Contacts are typically with youth campers, parents, and recreation staff.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Indoor and outdoor environment.
- Working varied hours, including mornings or evening shifts and some weekends.
- Be able to be active with children and provide clear instructions.
- Climbing ladders.
- Standing for extended periods of time.
- Lifting heavy objects weighing fifty (50) pounds.
- Reaching overhead and above shoulders.
- Kneeling or crouching.
- Hearing and speaking to communicate information.
- Reading and writing to communicate information.
- Seeing to monitor activities.
- Sensing hot and cold.
- Ability to swim or wade in water.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Educational background in recreation, education, or child development is preferable.
- Experience interacting with children and the public is highly desirable.
- Current First Aid/CPR certifications are required, or willing to obtain within the first week of hire.
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Food handler’s card preferred.
- All applicants must be able to successfully pass a background check process which includes reference checks and criminal history checks, or other.
