Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Parks Maintenance Superintendent, this temporary position will assist in general upkeep of facilities, special event support, green spaces and hardscapes as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists staff with maintenance and repairs throughout municipal grounds and parks.
- Performs landscape maintenance; weeding, planting trees and shrubs, laying sod, etc.
- Maintains restrooms and picnic facilities.
- Collects and disposes of waste from buildings and grounds.
- Assists with ballfield maintenance.
- Assists with new park development, including clearing, grading, drainage and foundation work.
- Operates small, motorized and manually operated hand-held landscape and janitorial equipment.
- Requires occasional interaction with public.
Perform additional related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Experience and skill in landscaping and facilities maintenance is desired.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Park Maintenance Superintendent or their delegate assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The Park Maintenance Superintendent or Park Maintenance Foreman or their delegate may provide assignments or training and spot check completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures and results.
GUIDELINES
- Guidelines include City and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretations.
- Wear approved and proper work attire to follow safe working procedures and guidelines.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
Performs a variety of unskilled tasks in park maintenance and operation of park, recreation and museum facilities, buildings and grounds.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be physically able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be physically able to work on your feet for the entire shift (breaks allowed).
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Washington State Driver's License with no restrictions.
- Able to work irregular hours, weekends and holidays.
- Able to work independently.
- Able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
