We’re looking for a highly motivated, passionate, and detail oriented professional to take on the role of Planning Intern within the Community Development Department. Don’t miss this valuable opportunity to gain tangible experience in City planning and local government.
This is a part-time paid position, up to 29 hours per week and does not include benefits. The Intern position is a temporary assignment through Summer 2025. These positions include flexible scheduling and college/university credit may be provided, as applicable. Interns receive direction and guidance from an intern host who is part of the management staff. Selected individual must be equipped to work remotely and/or on-site at the City of Mountain View (City Hall) with the internship starting in May or June 2025.
- Undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior level student pursuing a major in urban or regional planning or a related field. Recent graduates with a bachelor’s degree also meet the education requirement.

- This internship will provide exposure to a range of tasks associated with local government planning, including learning about the General Plan and zoning ordinance.
- The incumbent will assist customers at the public counter, perform plan reviews for simple projects, and collaborate with staff to prepare responses to public inquiries.
- Specific projects may include assisting with the Historic Preservation Ordinance Update, assisting with community outreach related to the Downtown Precise Plan Update, and other ongoing planning activities.
