What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transit Supervisor position at City of Murfreesboro, TN?
DESCRIPTION
This position is considered a Safety-Sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
The purpose of this position is to supervise the daily operations of the Public Transit System.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Essential Functions:
- Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
- Supervises, dispatches, trains, coaches, motivates and counsels drivers.
- Schedules daily work assignment utilizing department information system.
- Travels the City monitoring transit service operations.
- Trains and assists administrative staff with the completion of daily operations duties.
- Conducts on-the-scene accident investigations; assists operators in preparing accident reports, OSHA reports, and documents safety violations.
- Assists passengers and employees with various customer service related inquiries.
- Prepares bid documents and procures equipment for the transit system through competitive bid processes.
- Reviews time sheets to ensure accurate reporting of time worked by hourly employees.
- Observes operators on the road, corrects safety problems on the scene and documents violations.
- Implements departmental safety procedures and serves on the City-wide Safety Committee.
- Answers customer phone lines and dispatch radios. Assist drivers and passengers as needed.
- Assists in dispatching, driving, interviewing, and miscellaneous clerical tasks as required.
- Performs other work as assigned.
Physical Demands:
- Performs work that involves walking or standing some of the time and sustained keyboard operations.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must have two (2) years of experience in progressively responsible work in public transit management or closely related.
- Thorough knowledge of transit system operations; rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and routes.
- Must have a valid Tennessee Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A or B) with passenger (P) endorsement.
