Job Title: Lifeguard
Purpose of Position: This is a seasonal non-exempt position in the Parks and Recreation Department that provides a safe environment for the Aquatic Center.
Pay Rate: $9.00/hr
Part-time hours preferred: 15-20 hours per week
Plus a $500 End of Summer Bonus (must work through the end of season and be an employee in good standing
Reporting Relationships
Reports to Head Lifeguard
Essential Duties:
- Strong dedication to high quality customer service.
- Create a positive first impression with general public through a professional and friendly demeanor including dress, and personal grooming
- Scan designated areas to ensure adults and children using the pool and facilities are safe environment and prevent accidents or injuries. When on stand this will be the only duty of a Lifeguard.
- Enforce all pool safety rules and regulations in a calm and professional manner.
- Perform rescues and first aid as needed to assure customers safety.
- Know and implement Emergency Action Plans (EAP) for rescues, and other emergencies.
- Assist with the upkeep, maintenance, and daily cleaning
- Assist with the needs of pool patrons or direct customer to assistant.
- Maintain a positive attitude at all times and reflect that attitude in all relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Monitor personal health. Come to work alert and well rested in order to perform duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors that assist in meeting the needs of the citizens.
- Must report to work on a regular and timely basis.
Notice: This classification is a “safety-sensitive” position as defined by the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act and/or the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana laws. As a “safety-sensitive” classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.
Qualifications:
- Training and Experience.
- Training provided for at no charge.
- Customer service experience preferred.
- Must be willing to assume the responsibility for decisions made in life and death situations.

- Ability to work well with staff and public, maintain a professional attitude at all times.
- Ability to work independently, under pressure and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to set example and motivate co-workers to strive for the highest degree of professionalism.
- License and Certificates
- Possess and maintain current Lifeguard Certification. Provided for free.
- Possess and maintain American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification (or equivalent)
- Possess and maintain workplace harassment training and blood borne pathogen training.
- Work Environment
- Work will be outdoors, in hot weather conditions at times.
- Above average physical ability is needed to maintain alert during hours.
