The City of Naperville has a unique opportunity and is seeking an experienced and dedicated labor and employment attorney to join its seasoned in-house legal team, following the retirement of the attorney who held this role for 20 years. This full-time position offers the chance to manage labor and employment matters for a municipality with nearly 1,000 employees, including overseeing 12 unions. Position Overview: The Labor and Employment Attorney will provide comprehensive legal counsel on labor, employment, employee benefits, and related matters to the City of Naperville, its employees, elected officials, and various departments. The role will involve leading collective bargaining strategies, advising on employee relations issues, and representing the City in labor-related disputes. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $120,000-$150,000 per year, commensurate with experience. The pay grade for this position is L04. For additional information click here

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Provide expert legal advice on a wide range of labor and employment matters, including collective bargaining, discipline, grievances, employment discrimination, and employee benefits.Develop and implement collective bargaining strategies for management’s consideration and facilitate negotiations as needed.Represent the City in labor arbitrations, grievances, and other disputes, working closely with city departments and officials to ensure compliance with applicable labor laws and regulations.Conduct legal research, draft opinions, policies, and other legal documents, and provide training on labor and employment matters to City employees and officials.Collaborate with other members of the legal team and City departments to address and resolve legal issues in a timely and effective manner.Maintain a high level of professionalism, ethical standards, and confidentiality in all aspects of the role.
