Code Enforcement-Zoning Officer
- Perform a variety of office and field tasks related to inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with City and State codes and regulations.
- Provide information on City regulations to homeowners, businesses, and community groups to enhance and preserve the quality of neighborhoods and businesses.
- Monitor and enforce a variety of applicable codes, ordinances and regulations of private and public properties related to zoning, land use, nuisance ordinances, health and sanitation, blight, junked vehicles.
- Issue civil and criminal warnings and citations pertaining to the Nelsonville City Code.
- Attend Mayors Court and Athens County Municipal Court as a witness to all cited cases.
- Interpret and enforce property zoning regulations and requirements on behalf of the municipal or regional planning and zoning.
- Issue all City Permits. Zoning, Flood Plain, sidewalk café, Blocking street and alley, conditional use, alarm user, alarm business, contractor, home occupation, large and small lot division, sign, special event, vacant property, vendor permits.
- Assist the Flood Plain Administrator in administering the City Flood Plain Regulations and Permit issuing.
- Plan and develop community cleanup day throughout the city.
- Assist and work alongside the Athens County Landbank.
- Work closely with homeowners, landlords, tenants, businesses, and community groups to grow strong neighborhoods through public relations, education and code enforcement activities.
- Maintains integrity of work by taking responsibility and accountability for completion of work, customer interactions, and by maintaining punctuality and attendance at work.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Must be able to research, interpret, explain, and apply applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations related to zoning, nuisance abatement, and health and safety issues.
- Administer Civil Service exams.
- Prepare monthly activity and income reports for auditor, City Council and City Manager.
