What are the responsibilities and job description for the Street Maintenance Foreman position at City of New Iberia Municipal Civil Service?
Position in the class assigns, inspects work in progress and at completion, through subordinate positions of the Foremen II and/or Equipment Operator IV class, the work of municipal roadway and sidewalk construction and maintenance, and may participate, usually by operating more complex, heavy equipment. Receives assignments through meetings with the Departmental Director, Associate Director and / or General Foremen supervisors, informs subordinate foreman, operators of projects, locations, special considerations if any. May accompany foremen, machine operators, crews to site, explain job and instructs foremen constructing and reconstructing roadway and sidewalk infrastructure. Monitors ongoing work of at least two crews working at separate locations, inspects work in progress and at completion. Participates in training workers to perform more responsible tasks and equipment operations. Interviews prospective employees, makes recommendations for hire, reports allegations of misbehavior, conducts performance evaluations according to policy, assures accuracy of time and attendance records. Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A valid Louisiana driver’s license is required. Must also meet the general requirements of the City’s auto insurance company. Completed High school required; or three (3) years of street maintenance or street construction experience is required in lieu of the completed high school. Substantial prior working experience in construction and maintenance of roadway and sidewalk infrastructure, operating excavating equipment, construction of concrete and cement structures, use of forms and shoring, are desired. Work of this position includes determining grades and orientation essential to gravity flow of storm water drainage, requiring occasional use of a level and transit. Must be a qualified registered voter. Must pass the Civil Service Exam, post-offer drug screen, physical, and functional pre-placement testing.
Essential Functions: Tasks of this position require extensive driving, some operation of heavy excavation equipment, so that vision of at least 20/40 in each eye and depth perception of 80 seconds of arc or better, hearing and speaking abilities within normal limits, manual dexterity, strength, the ability to engage in occasional heavy lifting of up 100 lbs., climbing, digging, exertion and working in confined spaces are required.
