What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wastewater Maintenance Laborer position at City of New Iberia Municipal Civil Service?
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
- Positions in the class perform waste water pipeline excavation, repair, replacement and maintenance tasks, involving physical labor, often in adverse working conditions.
- Senior employees of this class act, when fully trained and D.H.H. Certified, act with independence, lead and instruct others.
- Accompanies excavating machine operator / foreman to site, installs shoring as needed, completes excavation with shovel, assists in cutting iron pipe, removal of clay pipe, replacement with composite.
- Applies, tightens clamps, tests, inspects for leaks, removes shoring, assists in backfilling, slab replacement, site restoration.
- Participates in training, by foremen, equipment operators, of inexperienced laborers, to perform more responsible tasks and achieve state department of health and hospital certification as required for promotion to more responsible positions.
- Performs related work as required.
- Working hours are generally 7:00 to 3:30 weekdays, subject to call out after hours, on week ends and holidays during emergencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of high school or equivalent; must submit a copy of the high school verification with application.
- Must be a registered voter; a copy of the voter of registration card must accompany the application.
- Literacy and a valid Louisiana driver’s license are required. Meet requirements of the City’s auto insurance company.
- Must pass the Civil Service Exam, the post-offer drug screen, physical, and functional pre-placement testing.
Desirable qualifications: Experience in operation and maintenance of subsurface C.C.T.V. and smoke testing equipment.
Essential Functions: Heavy lifting, climbing, digging and exertion is characteristic of all positions in this class. Ability to lift up to 110 lbs. and working in confined spaces are required.
