What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gun Violence Prevention Specialist position at City of New Orleans?
Summary of position:
The Violence Prevention Planning Specialist is responsible for collecting, researching, analyzing, organizing, and interpreting data related to issues affecting quality of life and other violence- prevention related issues in New Orleans. Specifically, this position will lead the Office of Violence Prevention efforts to develop short- and long-term violence prevention and intervention strategies; develop and work with key partners to oversee public-private collaborations to reduce community violence; and provide analytical support for research and evidence-based projects in violence prevention policy. This position will work collaboratively with community-based coalitions and organizations, health care partners, the business community, the criminal justice/law enforcement system and other stakeholders that aim to reduce gun violence rates in New Orleans. The Violence Prevention Planning Specialist will also work collaboratively with other NOHD, NOPD, hospital and community-based organizations, key stakeholders and the City of New Orleans staff whose work intersects with their own.
Qualifications:
· A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in public health, social work, science, a social science, or a related field.
· Two (2) years of professional experience in data analysis, information technology, social work, case management, social sciences, policy, or public health programs and/or policies. A Master’s Degree in one of the fields listed above may substitute for one (1) year of professional experience.
