Job Description

NOTE : Must be enrolled in law / graduate school for the Fall term 2025.

NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.

The First Deputy Commissioner manages the Property, Audit, Employee Services, Information Technology, and Tax Policy divisions, coordinates those divisions’ work with other DOF offices, and oversees agency-wide initiatives assigned by the commissioner.

The First Deputy Commissioner's Office is seeking a graduate student intern to assist the First Deputy Commissioner with key projects and initiatives including, but not limited to the following :

  • Communicating major First Deputy Commissioner Office program initiatives to other Department of Finance divisions.
  • Identification of DOF operational issues by reviewing metrics, divisional reports, and customer inquiries made to divisions reporting to the First Deputy Commissioner.
  • Project management and analysis that includes coordination between DOF divisions to facilitate implementation and identify issues and provide insights to the First Deputy Commissioner.
  • Analyzing customer outreach and revenue opportunities by reviewing uncollected taxes and fines, identifying characteristics associated with unpaid accounts, and giving DOF insight into these populations.
  • Improving business operations by designing or implementing best practices for improved communication and drafting models for new and improved systems, not limited to; webpage improvements, workflow optimization, and pilot program requiring IT support.

Qualifications

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.
