What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mediation Scheduler position at City of New York?
The Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) is charged with investigating mediating and prosecuting complaints which members of the public file against New York City police officers alleging the use of force abuse of authority discourtesy offensive language untruthful statements made by officers and racial profiling and biased policing. The Board consists of 15 members who are appointed by the Mayor the City Council and Public Advocate or designated by the police commissioner. The Board is responsible for governing the agency. The Executive Director is responsible for the daytoday operations of the agency. As the largest police oversight agency in the United States the CCRB currently investigates approximately 4500 complaints each year.
ABOUT THE MEDIATION SCHEDULING SQUAD
As part of the reorganization of the Investigations Division the Mediation Scheduling Squad will be charged with coordinating scheduling processing and other administrative tasks related to facilitating alternative dispute resolution proceedings involving civilians with mediationeligible complaints against NYPD Members of Service.
RESPONSIBILITIES : MEDIATION SCHEDULER
Reporting to the Chief of Investigations or designee Mediation Schedulers are entrylevel staff members that will be responsible for some or all of the following :
Understand embrace and effectively communicate the CCRBs mission and the role that Alternative Dispute Resolution plays in advancing the agencys mission.
Interact with civilians Members of Service and colleagues in a professional courteous and missiondriven manner.
Receive and process referrals of mediationeligible cases from investigators.
Initiate and maintain effective communication with civilians Members of Service and other stakeholders to establish or confirm their desire to participate in alternative dispute resolution (mediation) and to keep all parties apprised of the status of their case in the leadup to the mediation.
Liaise with mediators and involved parties to coordinate schedules for mediations.
Respond in a professional and timely manner to telephone calls and other inquiries from parties seeking information on the status of their mediationeligible case.
Produce reports and respond to requests for information from the Board the Executive Director the Chief of Investigations or designees about the Mediation Scheduling Squads docket individual Mediations Schedulers dockets or about individual mediationeligible cases.
Ensure that matters that are not mediated successfully are returned to investigators.
Handle confidential materials in a professional trustworthy discreet and confidential manner.
Perform various data entry tasks.
Design implement and maintain file organization system.
Copy scan store and dispose of files and documents as needed.
Participate in individual and collaborative problemsolving to advance mediationeligible cases in an expeditious manner consistent with the agencys mission.
Other tasks as may be directed by the Board the Executive Director the Chief of Investigations or designees.
Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
