About The Role
As the Public Safety Systems Administrator, you will be the go-to expert ensuring that the Police Department’s essential technology systems are running at peak performance. This includes:

Essential Job Functions And Examples Of Duties Performed
Serves as the initial resource to triage, troubleshoot, service, resolve and/or escalate technical issues as it relates to public safety systems and equipment. Performs desktop administration and support, including software and hardware installation and updates.
Maintains public safety hardware and software inventories.
Maintains both support and technical documentation for public safety systems and end-user documentation.
Develops and documents the provisioning process of public safety software and equipment to ensure a consistent and repeatable result in delivering the software and equipment to users.
Solicits information from users to help identify, clarify, define, and prioritize operational problems to the most effective service delivery opportunity.
Facilitates the resolution of user support issues or requests through hands-on action or escalation to other teams.
Administers the identities and rights of employees to public safety hardware and software systems.
Coaches individual users on the usage of public safety hardware and software.
Assists in implementing computer images and software packages on public safety systems.
Analyzes, supports and manages public safety applications, hardware, network and communications environments in assigned areas to ensure that applications and devices are available and operating to meet business needs and/or Service Level Agreements.
Monitors and maintains adequate levels of parts and equipment for all equipment and systems assigned to their responsibility.
Administers mobile devices including cellphones and tablets.
Administers mobile data computers and peripheral devices by installing and maintaining programs.
Work closely with partner agencies in the installation and administration of shared programs and connections.
Provide technical support to users regarding all aspects of systems functionality.
Download videos for internal and external requests for videos within the parameters of state records laws.
Clearly communicate technical solutions in a user-friendly, understandable, and professional manner.
Develop and deliver technical training to educate others or meet customer needs.
Troubleshoot all aspects of PC, printer, server, and network-Participates in the identification, troubleshooting and documentation of problems for application environments in assigned areas.
Maintains data integrity and application security for assigned applications and systems.
Maintains the software reporting environment in coordination with the IT department and the software vendor.
Assists in the development and designs system tests for requirements testing, functional testing and user acceptance testing. Assists in creating test specifications for complex Departmental or multifunctional applications. Helps to develop and execute quality assurance strategies.
May manage smaller projects by managing project structure, deadlines and schedules as assigned. Conducts project meetings, providing timely reporting of issues that impact project progress, coordinating actions, and resolving conflicts.
Prepares reports and completes special projects.
Keeps department head apprised of work progress including present and potential work problem and trends. Suggests new or more effective ways to address customer service issues.
Supports public safety systems within shared environments with the City of Newport and public safety partners.
Works effectively and cooperatively with the City IT Division.
In an emergency event or an officially declared State of Emergency, responds as directed to ensure the restoration of essential public services, facilities and infrastructure.
Provides after-hours and/or on-call support as scheduled.
Must be able to render credible testimony in a judicial proceeding.
Perform system and data backup and retrieval.
Perform basic administration of network switches, hubs, and routers.
Support audio-visual equipment in the Police Department and elsewhere.
Support internal and external websites. Assist with content updates.
Work with vendors to resolve problems and implement solutions.
Schedules hardware maintenance or complex hardware service with appropriate service provider or with the Information Technology Department as needed.

Qualifications
MINIMUM/MANDATORY EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be an Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school AND 3 years of experience in a similar position and/or performing similar tasks.
Knowledge
Knowledge of operations and maintenance of a variety of network, telecom, radio and computer hardware and software applications, including networking essentials and peripheral equipment. Knowledge of personal computers, and various related software programs, including spreadsheets and word processing programs. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams). Knowledge of network administration and information technology principles. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Active Directory. Knowledge of cybersecurity principles. Knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies.
