This recruitment is for one (1), regular, full-time position located in Salem, OR (4190 Aumsville Hwy SE) and is a management service – supervisory position, therefore not represented by a union. Compensation: $7,517 - 11,661 / month (MMS-33X-BA "Base Pay"); $8,039 - 12,472 /month (MMS-33X-BP "PERS Eligible Rate").
What you will be doing:
As the Dean of Students, you will lead the Center the Policing Excellence program, ensuring effective and equitable practices through the delivery of statewide training, technical support, and the development and delivery of academy training. As the Dean of Students you will lead and set the academic vision for the Agency’s public safety training programs. You will regularly assess the effectiveness of training and technical support programs by examining national, state, and local practices, reviewing empirical research, evaluating social changes, and interpreting emerging trends that impact the public safety community. In addition, you will drive strategic changes both within and outside the agency to align with the legislative intent for the Center for Policing Excellence. This includes effectively recommending and implementing changes to policies, practices, and training through active engagement in division discussions and workgroups.
You will also oversee the curriculum, assessment, instructor development program, technical assistance, behavioral health, and other assigned programs. For the instructor development program, you will ensure that all instructors and managers overseeing training programs are properly trained, receive continuing education, and are certified in all applicable areas. Within the technical assistance section, you will be responsible for managing all academic technology, including the Learning Management System (LMS) and Curriculum Warehouse.
You will lead a team of professionals, guiding and overseeing the work of staff and part-time instructors to ensure expertise and the quality of training and technical functions. You will coordinate communication, strategies, and planning across program areas, sections, other state departments, agencies, and constituent partners. Additionally, you will assess staffing needs and manage personnel to effectively support the mission of the Center for Policing Excellence program, the Training Division, and the Agency.
You will also play an active role in preparing biennial and interim budget requests, prioritizing requests from reporting staff, and clearly communicating the need for additional resources to the Agency’s Leadership team.

Minimum Qualifications:
Six (6) years of supervision, management, or progressively related experience; OR three (3) years of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

- Experience with academic technology systems, including Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Curriculum Warehouses.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with staff, agency leaders, other state departments, agencies, and external partners.
- Ability to assess staffing and resource needs, and actively participate in the preparation of budget requests, including identifying priorities and justifying resource allocation.
