Job Description
Education and Experience: Associate degree in a computer related field, including education in computer systems technical support on Windows based systems and network file servers, and three (3) years of experience in systems technical support or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications: Computer A and Network certifications desirable. Valid Oklahoma driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record.
Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of Windows based systems and support on an enterprise network environment and network printing. Working knowledge of Active Directory to the extent of setting up devices to an enterprise network and troubleshooting connectivity. Standard operating procedures and practices involved in the management and operation of electronic computer equipment.
Skills: Interpersonal skills necessary to be courteous of fellow employees while performing routine duties which involve providing technical assistance to computer systems users. Management and operation of computer systems and all associated peripheral devices such as local and network printers, disk drives, smart devices, tape drives, scanners, etc. Strong trouble-shooting skills associated with desktop support related issues including, but not limited to computer restores, hardware replacement, login assistance, software installations, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities: Installs computer hardware and software as needed including, but not limited to, internal components such as network cards, disk drives, controller cards, memory, and processors. Evaluates and resolves computer hardware and software problems. Assists end users in the proper use and care of computer equipment, printers, smart devices, other peripherals, and related software. Provides technical support to computers, laptops, smart devices, network printers, network copiers, and other network devices. Assists the system administrators with computer and LAN hardware and software trouble shooting and support. Observes equipment failure indicators to isolate, analyze and interpret causes that affect computer systems and LAN performance and availability. Assists the system administrators in ensuring the availability and integrity of computer-based databases and software. Performs hardware repair and upgrade functions on computer systems. Participates in answering help desk calls in the IT Support Center. Performs routine preventive maintenance activities on equipment. Performs after hours Tier I support for City facilities that operate 24/7 or after hours call back on a rotational basis approximately once per month; some overtime can be expected. Performs related work as required.
Working Conditions: Works in a normal office environment where there is little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
Mental and Physical Abilities: Ability to read, understand and apply the technical aspects of the operation, management, and support of computer systems. Ability to understand and apply complex oral and written instructions. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail. Analytical abilities necessary to apply technical knowledge to practical use in computer systems operations, management, and support. Ability to be flexible in work schedule due to computer systems operations, management, and support needs. Ability to do self-study while on the job to learn new technologies and functionality of systems. Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to 50 lb.) frequently. Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance.
