Title- IT Systems Support Administrator Team- Mission Support- Arts and Sciences

Work type- Onsite

The position will be located on the OU Norman campus with working hours of 8 am - 5 pm Monday - Friday. There is potential for after-hours / weekend work in the event of an emergency.

IT Systems Support Administrators play an essential role in providing system and solution administration, as well as device support for faculty and staff within the designated colleges and departments. This role reports to the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences Strategist (DFCAS) on the IT Mission Support Academics team, ensuring seamless operation and maintenance of IT systems for DFCAS. The IT Systems Support Administrator will focus on delivering high-quality customer service and technical support, both on-site and remotely, for university computers, mobile devices, peripherals, and applications.

This position requires a highly motivated individual who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment. As an embedded resource within the DFCAS, the IT Systems Support Administrator will manage technical projects, administer servers and services, and ensure network and IT security. They may also be responsible for managing aspects of the technology budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources, and aligning with departmental goals. This role is integral in supporting research computing needs, developing long-term support documentation, and fostering strong relationships with faculty, staff, and researchers.

The successful candidate will provide timely and professional guidance through various IT support channels and will be the primary point of contact for multiple services, including facilitating the device repair process for specified areas, remote support tool administration, and IT systems management. They will work collaboratively with peers, other teams, and vendors to resolve complex IT issues and continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the services provided.

Duties-

  • Provides on-site and remote end-user support for university computers, mobile devices, peripherals, and applications.
  • Analyzes business requirements and technology needs, manage technical projects, system administration, server administration, application administration, network security, and IT security; specify, test, and deploy solutions, and develop documentation for long-term support.
  • Manages the technology budget for the area, ensuring cost-effective use of resources and alignment with departmental goals.
  • Sustains a high level of customer service while implementing, and managing, and supporting IT systems and solutions.
  • Administers servers, services, and infrastructure, for the designated department(s) applying IT best practices.
  • Serves as an embedded resource to department(s), addressing area-specific technology issues, supporting research computing needs, and managing technology projects within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Interact with and train faculty, staff, and students on technology and research computing resources.
  • Manages research computing throughout the designated department including networked Linux machines, specialized software, licenses, and the installation of new systems and disk subsystems.
  • Manage account access and permissions to departmental security groups, mailboxes and distribution lists, network file shares, and other resources.
  • Support operating systems, hardware, and networking administration, including firewalls.
  • Leverage skills in unix and / or unix-like (Linux) System Administration, coding (Python, Bash, SQL, etc.), virtualization, large-scale storage systems, HPC, lab machine administration, web server administration, procurement, research computing consultation, and database administration to meet departmental IT needs.
  • Leverage relationship management and facilitation skills to coordinate with members of internal OU IT teams to prepare, secure, and deploy university systems in compliance with university policies and procedures.
  • Fosters long-term relationships with researchers and staff members to better understand their computational needs.
  • Helps customers navigate OU IT service offerings and support channels through the OU IT Service Catalog.
