The following information is not all-inclusive.OperationsReads meters & calculates pumping ratesComputer data entryCleans equipment of obstructionsHoses down structures for control of odorsMakes operational changes from data produced by process lab and personal observationsChecks equipment for proper operationLift stationsReads meters & calculates pumping timesCleans stations as neededChecks equipment for proper operation & performs preventative maintenance functions.MaintenancePerforms routine preventative maintenanceLubricates equipmentMakes minor repairs on equipmentLaboratoryDo minor process testing for operationsBack up lab testing in absence of lab techSludge disposalCleaning & preparing sludge bedsOperations of sludge dredge in pondSludge disposal via sludge truck.Grounds & Building maintenanceMaintains lawns & landscapingHelps maintain exterior of buildingsControl of weeds & brushPretreatment ProgramPerforming routine inspections of commercial usersPreparation for inspectionTraining and updating on current informationEDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, & EXPERIENCE : The education and experience requirements listed are minimum standards. Other equivalent combinations of education, certifications, training, and experience may be considered.

  • Possess an Oregon Wastewater Operations Certification II.
  • Possession of an Oregon Wastewater Operators Certification III desirable.
  • Possess a valid Oregon Drivers License
  • 5 year experience or qualified education in an activated sludge plant with experience in the lab, operations, or maintenance.Preferred :
  • Associated Degree in Wastewater Treatment or related field
  • Specific understanding of process control of an activated sludge plant
  • QA / QC of laboratory testing requirements
  • Safety training
  • Understanding of bio-solids applicationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :
  • Ability to work independently and able to develop decision making skills
  • Experience working with electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to report & record data
  • Ability and knowledge to operate an activated sludge wastewater treatment system
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Possess effective computer skills that include the use of word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Ability to read English and process large volumes of information
  • Capable of using high school mathematics skills with algebraic concepts
  • To be self-motivating, work as a team, and capable of analytical thinking while in the lab and operations
  • Capable of acting for the foreman and using judgment that would follow the foreman's intentions
  • The ability to drive motor vehicles and operate the following : automobile, sludge truck, riding lawn mower, power tools, power generators, pumps, lab equipment, computers, calculators, copy machines, and telephone. The ability to drive frequently to different locations under different kinds of traffic and weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift 0 to 90 lb. up to four feet at intermittent periods. (manhole lids, cement mix, pumps, etc.)
  • Use of hand and power tools.
  • Pushing of various weights (wheelbarrows, lawnmowers, etc.
  • Working safely in confined spaces such as manholes, wet wells, chlorine area, and in the lab.
  • Sitting for periods of time on moving equipment.
  • Standing for lengthy periods of time.
  • Gripping of power equipment.
  • Use of the various senses
  • Working with various chemicals in the lab and chemical feed building.
  • Must be able to walk over uneven surfaces for typically 1.5 miles / day. Stand for a period of up to 8 hours / day. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in conditions that include : varied-lighting situations, exposure to outdoor environment - both inclement and non-inclement weather conditions : exposure to heat, cold, dampness, and humidity, varying land elevations, moving objects, irregular and / or extended hours, allergenic and and chemical irritants.WORK SCHEDULE : Full-time, 40 hours per week. Typical hours are scheduled between 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 pm, Monday through Friday or as assigned, on call as assigned, and weekends possible.For all Full-Time, Non-Union Represented Employees : Competitive Salary : Offered for all positions.STEP Increases : After six months, then annually until the top step.COLA : Annual increase every July.Insurance : The city covers 90% of premiums.
