What are the responsibilities and job description for the Athletic Programs Supervisor position at City of North Charleston Recreation Department?
- Plans, develops, Implements and supervises a diversified athletics program for preschoolers, youth, teens, adults, seniors and special populations.
- Supervises subordinate supervisory and support staff; supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; allocating personnel; selecting new employees; acting on employee problems, and recommending employee discipline and discharge.
- Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers training, advice and assistance as needed.
- Recruits, trains and coordinates the work of volunteer coaches, managers and commissioners.
- Assists in ensuring department compliance with all City policies and procedures, standards of quality and safety, and all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Takes appropriate steps to ensure the safety of all citizens that utilize City recreational properties and facilities, attend sporting and special events, and take part in any activity offered by the department.
- Directs the scheduling of athletic facilities for programs and events.
- Plans and conducts tournaments and special events associated with the athletic program.
- Evaluates athletic programming through review of participant evaluations and public comment; determines cost-effectiveness and profitability of programs.
- Seeks community involvement in department activities through the recruitment of volunteers and sponsors.
- Participates in an effective marketing and public relations program to increase awareness of and participation in department programs. Receives and responds to media inquiries; prepares and distributes publicity materials to promote athletic programming.
- Inspects, coordinates and supervises the proper maintenance of athletic facilities, fields and equipment.
- Assists the Director in administrative, budgetary and maintenance matters, including the procurement of supplies and materials necessary for the conduct of athletic programs and the operation of facilities.
- Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints of citizens and visitors.
- Keeps abreast of trends and issues in public recreation by reading professional publications and attending conferences, workshops, professional meetings, etc.
- Receives and reviews various records and reports including various reports, program registrations, memos, correspondence, schedules, etc.
- Prepares a variety of documents, including but not limited to performance appraisals, budget documents, publicity materials, schedules, work orders, and various other records, reports, memos and correspondence.
- Refers to policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, safety manuals, budget documents, professional / trade journals, rule books, maps, etc.
- Operates a vehicle and a variety of equipment such as a computer, printer, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, etc.
- Uses computer and clerical supplies.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other City department heads and personnel, subordinates, Recreation Board members, committee and task force members, civic / community organizations, school groups, other government agencies, volunteers, program participants, parents, news media and the general public.
- Performs duties of subordinates as necessary in their absences.
- Performs general administrative / clerical duties as required, including preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, attending and conducting meetings, reviewing correspondence, etc.
- May be designated to report to work during hazardous weather or emergency conditions.
- Performs related work as may be required.
