Role Summary:
The city of North College Hill is seeking a Public Works Director. This role is responsible for overseeing the municipality's physical infrastructures, including roads, sidewalks, drainage systems, and public facilities, by managing maintenance, construction, and repair operations. In addition to the development of long-term improvements and managing a team of staff within budget constraints; essentially acting as the primary leader of a city's public works department.
Key Responsibilities:
· Strategic Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive public works plans, including infrastructure improvement projects, capital budgeting, and maintenance schedules to address community needs.
· Budget Management: Oversee the department budget, allocating funds for projects, equipment, personnel, and maintenance activities.
· Staff Supervision: Manage and lead a team of public works staff, assigning tasks, and ensuring efficient operations.
· Project Oversight: Manage the planning, design, bidding, and construction of public works projects, ensuring compliance with regulations and quality standards.
· Infrastructure Maintenance: Oversee routine maintenance of public infrastructure like roads, sidewalks, drainage systems, streetlights, and public buildings.
· Emergency Response: Coordinate response efforts during weather emergencies, including snow removal, flood control, and debris clean-up.
· Compliance and Regulations: Ensure adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations related to construction, environmental protection, and safety standards.
· Community Engagement: Collaborate with other city departments, community groups, and residents to address public concerns regarding infrastructure issues.
· Vendor Management: Manage contracts with outside contractors and vendors for construction, maintenance, and repair services.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of methods, equipment and techniques of municipal public works administration and operations: sound administrative skills, mature judgement, the ability to read and understand construction drawings, engineering plans and blueprints; good employee relations skills; good physical condition. Skill in the operation of various tools and equipment necessary for the completion of work. Ability to perform manual tasks regularly.
