What are the responsibilities and job description for the CUSTODIAN MAINT WORKER I position at City of North Miami Beach?
Under direct supervision, performs a variety of custodial tasks and duties such as cleaning, sweeping, mopping, polishing, vacuuming, picking up garbage, disposing of garbage, maintaining restrooms, etc. This position ensures compliance with applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Reports to the Facility Supervisor and Division Director.

- Maintains the restrooms in a clean and sanitary manner; replaces soap, toilet tissue, paper towels, etc.. As necessary.
- Performs numerous tasks and duties to maintain the floors such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming and cleaning the carpets, buffing, waxing, etc.
- Empties garbage and trash containers on a regular basis and keeps containers clean and sanitary.
- Maintains the cleanliness of walls, windows and furniture as needed by washing, dusting etc..
- Maintains and cleans Park and Recreation facilities as required including tennis courts, racquetball courts, complex facilities, weight rooms, athletic fields, playgrounds, etc..
- Opens and secures City Hall and facilities as required required.
- Replaces broken equipment or supplies as needed such as light bulbs, chairs, etc..
- Utilizes a variety of tools and equipment in the performance of the job including brooms, mops, stripping machine, buffers, vacuum cleaners, roller, blower, hand tools etc..
- Maintains, organizes and cleans work area in order to promote safe and efficient operations.
- Attends required staff meetings and performs other related duties as required.

- Requires a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of six (6) months of maintenance experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with a satisfactory driving record held throughout employment.
- Knowledge of departmental methods and activities as they pertain to the specified duties of Custodian Maintenance Worker I.
- Knowledge of the various cleaning products used on the job and is able to utilize such in a safe manner.
- Ability to follow oral instruction.
- Ability to complete daily activities in a timely manner.
- Must be organized, professional and neat.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Ability to communicate and coordinate in an effective manner with supervisors and staff.
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including a buffer, vacuum cleaner, stripping machine, roller, blower, hand tools, etc.
- Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, sit, stand, hear, use hands to fingers, handle, feel or operate objects, read and write English. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office equipment; such as but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier and fax machine. Work is predominately indoors within a usually quiet to moderately noisy environment. May involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight 5 to 20 pounds. May involve extended periods of time at a keyboard of work station.
