Repairs and maintains a variety of makes and models of passenger automobiles, motorcycles, trucks, road building machines and assorted motorized heavy equipment; does related work as required.
An employee in this class performs skilled mechanical repair work at the journeyman level. Although the repair jobs performed are frequently laid out in general terms and inspected on completion, an employee must be competent to carry on the intermediate phases of the work without assistance. Employees usually work subject to general directions from a technical supervisor receiving instructions as to what tasks to perform and work methods to use on difficult repair jobs. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate workers.
Equipment Used/Job Location: Ability to operate an automotive engine diagnostic machine. All types of hand and pneumatic tools required to maintain and repair all vehicles. City Motor Pool.High school graduation plus completion of an approved automotive/ truck mechanic apprenticeship program, plus considerable experience in progressively responsible motor vehicle equipment repair work.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT(S):
Possession of a valid Florida commercial driver's license "Class B" or higher.

- Repairs or overhauls automobiles, motorcycles, packers, sweepers and other light and heavy motorized equipment;
- Inspects, adjusts and replaces necessary units and related parts.
- Repairs or overhauls chassis units including brake and hydraulic systems, transmissions, differentials and front and rear axles.
