What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plant Maintenance Mechanic Trainee position at City of North Port?
- Participates in an on-the-job training program involving practical, "hands- on" experience with the operations and maintenance of the Treatment Facilities process equipment under the general supervision of a maintenance mechanic.
- Participates in general preventive and corrective electromechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and general construction on all Treatment Facilities and Booster Station process equipment.
- Participates with lubrication of small and large diameter valves, actuators and bearings, and process rotating equipment.
- Assists in rebuilding, replacing, and the installation of process pumps, refurbishing or replacing associated valves and process piping.
- May perform rotating on call duties and after-hours emergency response.
- Compliant with all Standard Operating Procedures.
- Performs various grounds maintenance and housekeeping duties as directed.
- Performs minor preventative maintenance tasks, as directed.

- Knowledge of basic electromechanical principles.
- Knowledge of proper use of all hand tools and safety equipment.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions per industries standards.
- Ability to learn the principles, practices, materials, and procedures pertaining to electromechanical operation and maintenance.
- Ability to perform a variety of plant maintenance and housekeeping tasks.
- Ability to accurately follow routine oral and written instructions.
- Ability to learn, read, and understand technical manuals.
- Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.
- Ability to learn computerized software utilized to perform daily tasks.
- Ability to use mature judgment in evaluating situations and make decisions in accordance with established policy.
- Ability to work in a team environment and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, other employees, and the public.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under hot and humid conditions.
- High School Diploma from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required.
- Experience with electrical and mechanical equipment preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License.
Emergency Response Responsibility
Every City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description. Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.
Hiring Range Statement
Please note, the hiring pay range for this position is the minimum up to a rate equal to or less than the midpoint of the salary range.
