What are the responsibilities and job description for the NS Lifeguard-Beach (Part-Time/Seasonal) position at City of Norwalk?
As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of beachgoers by preventing accidents, responding to emergencies, and providing assistance to individuals in distress. This role involves actively monitoring the designated beach area, enforcing safety regulations, and performing other duties related to maintaining a safe environment for all beach patrons.
- Surveillance & Rescue: Maintain constant vigilance over the assigned beach area, monitoring swimmers and beachgoers for safety risks. Respond promptly to emergencies, including performing rescues, administering emergency life support, and providing First Aid and CPR as needed.
- Safety Regulation Enforcement: Enforce all beach safety rules and regulations, ensuring a safe environment for all. Report safety violations or hazards to the appropriate authorities.
- Equipment Maintenance: Operate and maintain all lifeguarding equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition at all times.
- Other Duties: Perform additional duties as directed by the Aquatics Supervisor or their designee to assist in maintaining beach safety and operations.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance with beach safety education or outreach activities as needed.
- Support emergency response teams during major incidents or beach-wide events.
Supervision:
Receives direction from the Aquatics Supervisor or their designee.
- Knowledge of:
- Lifesaving techniques, including water rescue, CPR, and emergency life support.
- First Aid principles and practices, including the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
- General beach safety rules and regulations.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong swimming abilities, with the capacity to cover long distances.
- Ability to perform rescues and administer life-saving techniques, including CPR and first aid.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with the public.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow safety protocols and written instructions
- Physical Requirements:
- Applicants must meet the health and physical condition standards required to perform the essential duties of the position, including the ability to swim long distances, lift individuals in distress, and remain alert under various conditions.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid Certificate (or equivalent).
- American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (or equivalent).
- Additional certifications as required by local or state regulations.
Salary : $17 - $19
