General Description
Norwich Human Services is hiring a Program Assistant for its CT Youth Employment Program (CYEP). This position is grant-funded by EASTCONN and EWIB; hours may be subject to change based on available funding. This role includes a substantial amount of travel around the greater Norwich area. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
20 – 29 hours/week; $25 an hour
Work Period: May 15 – Aug 31, 2024
Duties & Responsibilities
- Working with diverse groups of young adults ranging from 14-24 years of age.
- Assisting youth in developing skills that foster autonomy in the workplace, self-advocacy, and employability, and tracking their progress.
- Processing CYEP applications with the Facilitator.
- Assisting the Facilitator with community outreach and recruiting new worksites
- Conducting CT Youth Employment interviews and assisting with Orientations.
- Completing onboarding and payroll paperwork (of youth) with the Facilitator.
- Connecting with and supporting youth workers and worksite supervisors on-site 2x week:
- Observing & Training Youth with their Worksite Supervisor.
- Collecting and totaling youth timesheets, assisting the Facilitator with corrections, and distributing paychecks.
- Being available to address any concerns (including but not limited to) tardiness, absences, lack of effort, poor attitude, etc.
- Giving the youth feedback regarding their work (both positive and negative).
- Demonstrating professionalism to youth participants.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent customer service, communication skills; verbal and written. Excellent time management skills.
- Competency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) and Google Suites (Docs/Drives, Gmail and Classroom/Sites).
- Capacity to complete data-entry tasks utilizing web-based systems, maintain accuracy and efficiency in fast-paced environment.
- Ability to thrive within diverse teams and serve people with diverse socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work with teenage youth.
- Ability to work independently.
- Must be available during the entire work period.
- Ability to frequently travel within Eastern Connecticut with reliable transportation.
