Baseball/Softball Umpires
Description
Officiating baseball and/or softball games to maintain standards of play as well as sports policies and to ensure that game rules are observed by participants and spectators. Works directly with the public and is responsible for contributing to a fun and safe environment for friendly competition.
Essential Duties
- Judge performances in sporting competitions to award points, impose scoring penalties, and determine results.
- Ensure good sportsmanship from players, parents, and coaches. De-escalate potentially hostile situations to ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience.
- Signal participants or other officials to make them aware of infractions or to otherwise regulate play or competition.
- Inspect sporting equipment and/or examine participants to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations.
- Keep track of event times, starting or stopping play when necessary
Requires
- 14 years of age
- Must be able to work long hours in outdoor temperatures such as heat, cold, and humidity.
- Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time.
- Running related to the job duties will be occasionally necessary.
- Reliable transportation to get to work on time.
- Ability to communicate with players, coaches, and general staff.
- General knowledge of the rules of baseball and/or softball.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for long periods of time in potentially hot or cold temperatures, and light rain,
- Some light running necessary to be in a good position to make calls.
Supplemental Information
- Must pass background check.
- Some work is accomplished in an outdoor environment, subject to weather fluctuations (wide range of temperatures & inclement conditions)
