About the Role:
The City of O'Fallon is looking for a hardworking and detail-oriented Maintenance Worker I - Parks to help maintain and enhance our parks, athletic fields, and recreational spaces. This position ensures that our outdoor facilities are safe, clean, and enjoyable for all residents and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Athletic Field Maintenance: Prepare fields for play by grooming, lining, and setting bases; maintain turf through mowing, fertilizing, seeding, and aerating.
- Parks & Facility Upkeep: Mow non-turf areas, clean and inspect pavilions, parking lots, restrooms, and playgrounds daily to ensure user safety.
- Equipment & Infrastructure: Maintain and service equipment, assist with minor construction, painting, plumbing, carpentry, and facility maintenance.
- Irrigation & Landscaping: Assist with irrigation operations, repairs, pesticide and fertilizer applications, and lake maintenance.
- Safety & Repairs: Conduct playground inspections and repairs to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Equipment Operation: Operate dump trucks, backhoes, excavators, skid steers, chain saws, turf maintenance equipment, lifts, and hand tools.
- Event Support: Help prepare for festivals and special events.
- Seasonal Duties: Assist with snow removal operations as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience: One to three years of experience in a similar role, or completion of an apprenticeship/internship in a related field.
- Licensing: Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class A CDL driver's license issued by the State of Missouri for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Knowledge & Skills:
- Principles and practices of parks maintenance, grounds maintenance, and facility upkeep.
- Equipment operation and maintenance procedures.
- Turf management principles.
- Relevant local, state, and federal laws.
- Ability to operate and maintain landscaping and maintenance equipment safely.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
