This position performs duties that result in or contribute to the comfort, convenience, or safety within the City of Oakdale by ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the city’s utility and public infrastructure systems. Primary job responsibilities include ensuring the public water system properly operates and is maintained and assisting with the maintenance and operation of the sanitary system. As a member of the Public Works department, our maintenance staff provides assistance to all divisions as needed, appropriate, or directed.JOB DUTIES OR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Work collaboratively with other divisions to provide excellent and responsive public services, including daily maintenance, emergency situations, and special events
- On-site and field communication with residents on a variety of environmental and public infrastructure topics
- Knowledge and understanding of utility meter reading equipment and software, use of spreadsheets, and ability to migrate utility billing data to the meter reading data system
- Knowledge and understanding of the SCADA system at well, tower, and lift stations
- Proficiency with standard technology
- Assist with the maintenance of the public water system, including towers, wells, fire hydrants, valves, distribution system, chemical feed equipment (chlorine and fluoride)
- Assist with the maintenance of the public sanitary system, including lift stations, manholes, and gravity sewer system operations
- Record daily pumping records for wells and lift stations
- Assist in all aspects of Public Works maintenance activities within but not limited to the Parks, Streets, and Utility divisions.
- Respond to after-hours calls/inquiries as directed or needed during any calendar day.
- With reasonable notice, carry a city-provided on-call phone as directed or needed during any calendar day
- Able to communicate clearly and professionally in writing and verbally
- Performs other duties as assigned

- High School diploma or GED certificate
Experience
- One (1) year of experience in utility maintenance
Trainings, Certificates, and Licenses
- Minnesota Department of Health Water Operator Certification - Class E (current or in possession by time of hire)
- Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Wastewater Operator Certification – Class S-D
- (current or in possession by time of hire)
- Within six months of hire, obtain a Class B Commercial License with air brakes and tanker endorsement with Minnesota driving privileges.
Education
- Additional degree in related field/utilities maintenance at a vocational school or related on-the-job experience
Experience
- Three (3) years of experience in utility maintenance

- Class A Minnesota driver’s license with air brakes and tanker endorsement with Minnesota driving privileges
- MDH Water Operator Certification – Class B
- MPCA Wastewater Operator Certification – Class S-B
Salary : $67,766 - $84,718
