This is a semi-skilled, labor intense and hazardous position that requires individuals to perform electrical work relating to overhead and underground electrical facilities in a variety of voltages from 110 to 230,000 volts. This position reports to the Department Director or Designee. The Lineworker Trainee position is the entry level position that leads to a Lineman career. A Lineworker Trainee is required to progress through the training and testing program that culminates in becoming an Apprentice Lineman. This program is designed to take 36 months from date of hire to review by the Apprenticeship Committee. The training and testing program will consist of six 6-month increments. The Lineworker Trainee is required to meet the specific goals of his/her current increment by the 6-month increment end date to be eligible to advance to the next level. An employee who is not successful in the program on their 6-month increment end date may be subject to termination. It is expected that by the 18-month point, in addition to the statements above, the Lineworker Trainee will progress to a highly skilled, labor intense and hazardous position that requires knowledge of crane and digger derrick operations, operating capabilities, set up, driving and maintenance.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Assists in performing construction and maintenance job tasks associated with electrical lines. Operates or assists in operating bucket trucks, derricks, trenchers, hydraulic tools, chain saws and other tools and equipment as may be required. Conforms to policies and procedures for safe work practices, area protection, proper use and maintenance of vehicles, tools and equipment associated with accepted line work practices.
2. Assists in maintaining an adequate supply of tools and related equipment needed to accomplish daily assignments.
3. Secures work area by providing designated traffic control devices in appropriate position. May be required to work as a flag person.
4. Physical strength and endurance to operate tools, load and unload materials, for extended periods from trucks, poles, ladders, trenches, vaults, or kneeling at ground level. Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 lbs.
5. Availability during after hour call outs is required with rotation to "stand by" on a regular rotation when qualified.

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOLLOWING THE FIRST 18 MONTHS
1. Become completely familiar with the lifting limitations (radius angle, reach, extension, load weights) of a rear mounted 100' crane rated 47,000 pounds maximum capability. Become completely familiar with the digger derricks with 55' boom heights and 12,000-pound lifting capabilities. Follow procedures for check out and set up of vehicles, such as inspecting lift cables, check pad and block availability. Safely perform lifting, setting and loading of heavy equipment.
2. Visually, physically, and audibly inspects their assigned vehicle on a daily basis to ensure safe operation.
3. Performs construction and maintenance job tasks associated with electrical lines. Conforms to policies and procedures for safe work practices, area protection, proper use and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment associated with accepted line work practices.
4. Secures work area by providing designated traffic control devices in appropriate position. Physical strength and endurance to operate tools, load and unload materials, for extended periods from trucks, poles, ladders, trenchers, vaults or kneeling at ground level. Must be able to lift a minimum of 80 lbs.
5. Availability during after hour call outs is required with assignment to "stand by" on a regular rotation when qualified.

NONESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. May assist in providing "on the job" training in the field to fellow employees.
2. Performs other duties as assigned.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduate or GED. Must have worked outdoors performing manual labor tasks. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions in English. One year experience in the operation of medium to heavy-duty hydraulic equipment is preferred.

REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATES
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida operators driver's license with an acceptable driving record and a learning permit for a CDL license before the first day of work. Must obtain a valid Florida commercial driver's license, CDL Class A, within 90 days of employment.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
The employee must, within one year of date of hire or promotion to this position, reside within 45 minutes of the assigned work facility.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Ability to work alone to complete tasks. Ability to communicate clearly and politely in person and by two-way radio. Ability to remain calm in emergency situations. Ability to work at various heights (200') or in trenches, vaults, or confined spaces. Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 lbs.

Salary : $49,393 - $61,743
