P/T Seasonal Recreation Aide II - Discovery Center

**This position is NOT eligible for Veteran's Preference as NO benefits are offered for this position** Approximately 35 hours per week Routine work of moderate difficulty and variety in recreational programs and activities. Reports to the designated supervisor and works under general supervision. This level is distinguished from higher classification levels by its lack of supervisory duties and from lower classification levels by its scope of duties and responsibilities.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Plans and assists in organizing softball, quiet games, and other group games, which may require performance of tasks outdoors under varying climatic conditions.
2. Conducts story-telling hours for small children.
3. Teaches indoor recreational activities such as dancing, basketball and ping-pong.
4. Oversees use of playground supplies and equipment.
5. Prepares detailed records and reports in a timely manner.
6. Teachers arts and crafts, and other recreational activities.
7. Maintains order at the recreation center. Counsels and disciplines younger participants.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED preferred. Must be able to read and write. Follows oral and written instructions. Minimum of one year experience dealing with general public/customer service and in recreation work preferred.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Florida Operator Driver's License preferred.Knowledge of the general range of activities in a community recreation program. Knowledge of the aims, principles, and methods of a community recreation program. Knowledge of the techniques and principles of varied recreational activities, including arts, and crafts, athletic and other types of games, ceramics, and related activities. Ability to instruct program participants in varied recreational activities. Ability to work effectively with co-workers, the general public, and children. Ability to keep records and prepare reports. Ability to communicate clearly and courteously to assist others.
