What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks Service Worker position at City of Ocoee?
Performs semi-skilled to skilled manual work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility in performing light to heavy physical labor in general maintenance and upkeep of parks, landscape, grounds, and recreation facilities. Employees in this classification work receive assignments and work independently or as part of a work crew, depending on the nature of the assignment or project. Work involves responsibility for the safe and effective operation of common landscape maintenance equipment. The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. Knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment and necessary safety precautions used in general grounds maintenance work.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Cleans and maintains grounds, play areas, park properties and facilities, and landscaping.
- Performs a variety of parks maintenance tasks to include mowing, weeding, planting, raking, trimming, edging, mulching, and pruning.
- Independently or as part of a work crew, installs and maintains landscape projects and parks beautification projects.
- Participates in projects such as annual plantings, tree and shrub plantings, maintenance of ballparks and fields, and creation of multi-use areas in the parks.
- Makes repairs to playground equipment, bleachers, and other park facilities.
- Assists in irrigation and landscape installation to include digging and covering irrigation trenches and digging and planting plants.
- Provides daily maintenance of landscape equipment and vehicles.
- Operates common landscape equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, blowers, edgers, and hedgers.
- Performs related duties as directed when such duties are logical/appropriate assignment to position.
High school diploma or GED. Requires possession and maintenance of a valid Florida driver’s license. Prefer training and certification in landscape design and maintenance or park beautification.
Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and understanding effective precautionary measures necessary to avoid accidents.Knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment and necessary safety precautions used in general grounds maintenance work.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
