Employment Status: Full-Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Starting Pay Rate: $17.52-21.90/hr

Experience Required : Two (2) years of full-time experience working in an educational setting within a zoological or similar institution. Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Minimum Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Biology, or related field.

Department: Conservation, Education, Science

Direct Supervisor: Assistant Director of Education

Supervisory Responsibility: Direct (none); Indirect (variable)

Primary Work Location: Zoo setting, both indoors and outdoors.

Certification: Valid Oklahoma driver’s license

Other: This position is subject to pre-employment and/or periodic background checks and restricted registry checks. Ability to complete CPR/1 st Aid certification within 30 days of hire and completion of Health and Safety Institute training within 30 days of hire. This position works around animals susceptible to specific respiratory diseases and, thus, is subject to annual tuberculosis testing.

Job Summary: The Education Program Supervisor I is responsible for developing and facilitating educational programming. This position supports the assistant director of education and the Director of Education in development, creation, and facilitation of all educational programming, helping to ensure that programming contributes significantly to the Zoo's mission of connecting people with our world’s vanishing wildlife and wild places to inspire conservation action.

Essential Job Functions

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:

  • Oversee all aspects of specific assigned educational programs.
  • Develop and write age-appropriate curricula focused on meeting the Zoo’s strategic conservation education outcomes, supervise curricula implementation, and gather and organize needed resources and support materials for assigned programs.
  • Help Assistant Director with recruiting, training, mentoring, and evaluating part-time educators within their assigned programs.
  • Ensure that educational standards are met within the specific programs they oversee.
  • Create and implement educational programs tailored to specific grade levels. This includes ensuring that the content is suitable for the respective age groups and captivates the interest of the intended audience.
  • Ensure that all activities comply with safety protocols and adhere to relevant educational standards or guidelines. Understand and follow all of the Zoo’s safety and emergency protocols.
  • Communicate and interact professionally with teachers, students, parents, and Zoo guests, conveying a welcoming and friendly attitude.
  • Value and support all work group members, offering assistance to ensure each other’s and the whole team’s success.
  • Teach all programs as assigned.
  • Present ambassador animals.
  • Work in a manner that supports and protects the health of the assigned collection, to include wearing assigned PPE and limiting exposure to known contagions.
  • Educate the public and drive positive guest experiences.
  • Model creativity and innovation in program design and facilitation.
  • Represent the Zoo knowledgeably and professionally during all working hours, including at external community events.
  • Collaborate with other Zoo departments.
  • Participate in conservation activities to support Zoo’s mission.
  • Practice and model the Zoo’s values centered on wildlife and wild places, conservation, people, and leadership.

Non-Essential Job Functions

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
