About the Position
The Public Works Department has openings for 2 temporary Maintenance Worker I positions in the Stormwater/Wastewater Operations Work Unit. This position requires a CDL. The minimum is a Class B CDL, Class A preferred. The anticipated start date is February 17, 2025. These temporary positions will last no more than 9 months.

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • One-year general work experience. Background in drinking water, stormwater, wastewater, signs & markings, or streets preferred.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively as a part of a team.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:

Stormwater/Wastewater Operations
  • Perform general maintenance and repair of the City's utilities including Storm and Surface Water and Wastewater.
  • Perform basic maintenance at storm and wastewater facilities, including pruning, vegetation control, litter removal, fertilizing and transplanting plants.
  • Operate hand tools and power tools, including but not limited to; mowers, edgers, blowers, weed eaters, jackhammers, rotary hammers, whackers, drills, reciprocating saws, portable pumps and chop saws. May be trained on other specialized equipment.
  • May assist operations and maintenance crews.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • One-year general work experience required. Experience in specialty area (i.e. repair, maintenance, vegetation control, etc.) preferred.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor and work outdoors in heavily trafficked areas, in all types of weather, and on all types of surfaces.
  • Skill in using of a wide variety of power and hand tools, equipment and machinery used in vegetation management.
  • Use good judgment in the operation of potentially dangerous equipment and while working at potentially hazardous work sites. Maintain constant awareness of hazards and continuously apply safe work habits and practices.
  • Listen to, remember, and apply work directions, instructions, information, and practices in daily communication with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Safely drive and operate heavy and light duty vehicles and equipment such as pickup trucks, off-road service and transport vehicles, and other related conveyances.
  • Demonstrated punctual, regular, and reliable attendance is required.
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures.
Special Requirement
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License is a requirement of all positions. A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License is required, a Class A Commercial Driver's License with endorsements is preferred.
  • Washington State Flagger's Certification is preferred.
