The City of Onalaska is seeking to hire Head Lifeguards. An employee in this position works under the supervision of the Aquatics Center Specialist and provides supervision of the pool in the absence of the Aquatic Specialist. Position is responsible for the providing a safe environment at the Aquatic Center. Head Lifeguards will provide a positive image of the City’s aquatic program by attentive, conscientious, and courteous behavior at all times. Scheduled hours may vary.
Essential Job Functions:
- Supervises the Aquatic Center in the absence of the Aquatic Specialist.
- Assists Aquatic Specialist in completing reports and related paperwork as requested by the Parks and Recreation Director.
- Manages staff rotation and breaks.
- Supervises Lifeguards and assign responsibilities.
- Reports staff issues to the Aquatic Specialist.
- Be trained on and knowledgeable of facility emergency action plans (EAPs).
- Maintains the chemical and filtration equipment under the direction of the Aquatic Specialist.
- Monitor water clarity and report to Aquatic Specialist.
- Enforces Aquatic Center rules and regulations. Responsible for disciplinary actions.
- Reports daily or as directed to Aquatic Specialist on the status of Aquatic Center operations, including supplies, equipment, and staff.
- Directs the clean-up of the Aquatic Center when needed during operational hours.
- Handles citizen requests, questions, and complaints. Take action or forward Aquatic Specialist as appropriate.
- Supervises the collection, accounting, and deposit of all monies received at the Aquatic Center.
- Develops and conducts weekly in-service training with staff. Plans and leads staff training including CPR, first aid, swimming skills, and emergency action plans.
- Communicates concerns and issues with appropriate parties.
- Other duties as requested or assigned.
Compensation: Wage range for this seasonal, limited-term position is $14.00 to $17.00 per hour depending on qualifications and budget. Flexible scheduling available. There are no benefits associated with limited-term positions.

Minimum 18 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent required. Current certification in CPR and First Aid and American Red Cross Lifeguard training required. Previous supervisory experience at an aquatic facility preferred. Must work with little or no supervision. Good communication and organizational skills.
