Job Summary
This role is responsible for overseeing daily operations, facility maintenance, staff supervision and development, and recreational programming at our Mayor William Beardall Senior Center. This community center is dedicated to serving the unique social, physical, and mental enrichment needs of the senior community by offering tailored recreational and wellness activities. The position requires a dynamic, service-oriented leader who is passionate about enhancing the quality of life for seniors through innovative programs and community engagement. A community center differs from a regional center in that it does not have a gymnasium, has moderate attendance and revenue levels, is typically open six (6) days a week, and may host active outside groups. This position reports to a Recreation District Manager. Work is reviewed through reports, conferences, achievement of performance goals, and the overall effectiveness of results achieved. Some positions are assigned to outdoor facilities/parks, and employees may be exposed to weather conditions, including extreme heat.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development & Implementation:
o Design, schedule, and execute a variety of recreational, wellness, and social programs specifically tailored for seniors (e.g., fitness classes, arts and crafts, health education seminars, social clubs, and hobby groups).
o Collaborate with community partners, local health agencies, and senior organizations to enhance and expand programming.
Operational Management:
o Supervise the daily operations of the center, ensuring the facility is well-maintained, safe, and accessible for all senior participants.
o Oversee scheduling and management of both indoor and outdoor activities, adapting programs as needed to accommodate weather-related challenges and participants’ needs.
Staff Supervision & Development:
o Recruit, train, and supervise facility employees and volunteers, ensuring they understand the unique requirements of serving a senior population.
o Provide ongoing support and performance evaluations, fostering a team environment that prioritizes compassionate and effective service delivery.
Facility Promotion:
o Actively promote the center within the community to drive engagement, increase usage, and develop partnerships.
o Manage marketing initiatives including outreach events, informational sessions, and collaborations with local senior centers and community organizations.
Administrative & Financial Responsibilities:
o Maintain accurate and timely records, including weekly/monthly reports, attendance, and program evaluations.
o Oversee budgeting and the purchasing of supplies and equipment necessary for facility operations and recreational programming.
Safety & Compliance:
o Ensure all activities comply with local regulations and safety protocols, particularly when supervising outdoor programs where exposure to extreme weather conditions (e.g., extreme heat) may occur.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, or related field and two (2) years experience developing or implementing recreational/social programs, preferably with some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Must pass background check which includes polygraph. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) desired.

If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
- Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
- Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
- Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
- Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
Salary : $26 - $34
