What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utilities Locator position at City of Osage Beach?
The Locator position supports all City departments and performs a wide variety of skilled and technical assignments. This position locates underground utility wires and water and sewer mains using electronic water and sewer maps, special electronic locator equipment, and public works infrastructure knowledge. To locate City utilities this position may require the use of blueprints and/or other engineering drawings. Also provides geographical positioning information for all City departments.

Examples of Essential DutiesThe following examples are meant to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive:
- Performs utility locates for all City departments per State Statutes.
- Interacts with Missouri811 callers via mail and/or telephone to ensure caller expectations are correctly understood.
- Uses GPS Unit for City utilities and downloads to computer.
- Updates all City departments’ files.
- Performs CCTV inspections for water, sewer, and transportation departments.
- Provides assistance to the Sewer Department, Water Department, and Transportation Department employees.
- Follows departmental rules, policies, procedures, and assists fellow employees.
- Maintains an open line of communication and a good working relationship with all city employees.
- Follows daily and weekly work schedules and completes projects in a timely and accurate manner.
- May assist in preparing reports as requested.
- Assists in maintaining statistical information on water and sewer department activities.
- Operates pickup truck and similar equipment.
- Performs routine maintenance and service on motor vehicles and equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions with limited supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and specifications.
- Ability to utilize electronic tablet, cellular telephone apps and GPS tracking equipment.
- Ability to read and edit Public Works electronic infrastructure maps.
- Ability to maintain detailed, accurate records and reports.
- Knowledge of locating theory and locating equipment.
- Ability to deal effectively with the general public and city officials.
- Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and written with employees, public officials, Missouri811 callers, vendors, and others as required.
- Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations of city personnel policy and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of State Statutes regarding utility locates.
- Working knowledge of construction equipment, materials, and methods in Sewer, Water, and Transportation departments.
- Thorough knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common in public works.
- Working knowledge of computers, mapping software, and locate ticket management.
- Minimum Qualifications
- High School Graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Moderate knowledge of computers including Microsoft applications and GIS software.
- Must possess a valid Missouri driver’s license.
