POSITION SUMMARY
This position performs skilled and semi-skilled work in evaluation, maintenance, and repair to the logic level of electronic systems, performs general electrical construction tasks and general mechanical maintenance, and performs a variety of routine and complex administrative record keeping tasks. The employee may coordinate work with Maintenance Mechanics, Wastewater Plant personnel, or contracted staff as assigned. Work may be performed independently or assisting members of a team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive, other duties may be required and assigned.
- Perform electrical installation, troubleshooting, and repair and work order maintenance of electronics and electrical systems (motor control, level controls, telemetry, etc.). Test, calibrate, and adjust various electrical and electronic controls or meters used in the system. (35%)
- Respond to emergency calls, operate emergency generating systems, and respond to city wide emergency situations. (20%)
- Perform mechanical installation, troubleshooting, repair and work order maintenance of pneumatics, pumps, motors, compressors, and mechanical drives. (15%)
- Perform general maintenance of natural gas/methane gas fired boilers, and air conditioning. (10%)
- Keep inventory, time and material records. (10%)
- Analyze and recommend improvements to existing facilities, equipment, and operating systems. (5%)
- Comply with policies/requirements regarding personal protective equipment health and physical condition checks, due to the requirement to enter confined spaces. Attend and pass all safety, first aid or operational training needed to perform this job. (5%)
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Associates Degree in Instrumentation Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Mechanical Maintenance or equivalent military service training.
- Minimum of four years of experience in electro-mechanical maintenance work involving pumps, motors, gear boxes, transmissions and related equipment.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of and skill in use of methods, materials and tools used in electrical construction, electronics, and mechanical maintenance.
- Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Knowledge of the principles of electrical theory as applied to electrical circuits and wiring systems and the ability to apply this knowledge to work situations.
- Knowledge of and ability to install and repair instrumentation systems and calibration standards for primary sensing devices such as level, pressure, flow and temperature;
- Knowledge of the basic principles of analog and digital electronic transmitters and controllers, control loop characteristic of on/off, P, PI, PD and PID controllers, computer principles and systems, and programmable logic controllers, ladder logic and design.
- Possess good interpersonal skills, be team oriented, and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other city employees, and the public.
- Ability to wear a SCBA for chlorine work and to successfully pass a SCBA fit test.
- Ability to understand the basic operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
- Ability to effectively instruct co-workers in the proper methods, procedures, and safety precautions of electrical and mechanical work.
- Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work from a sketch, schematics, wiring diagrams, or blueprints.
- Ability to work under varying weather conditions.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $31.16 - $42.73 per hour
