[*IF REQUIRED TO REPORT: Must report to work for duty outside normally scheduled work hours in response to natural disasters, emergencies, rotational on-call assignments, or critical incidents as determined by City Administration.]
Trains new or less experienced operators on heavy equipment. Performs labor and more complex, highly-skilled tasks as assigned.
Operates front-end loader, excavator, marsh master, bulldozer, bush hog, claim truck and backhoe; operates large and small dump trucks, street sweeper and vacuum truck; operates large and small tractors and mowers.
Services and makes repairs and adjustments on equipment.
Operates light and all heavy equipment, conducts semi-skilled tasks with hand tools or other means necessary to complete work projects.
Conducts general construction, maintenance and repair work on construction projects.
Repairs and replaces water lines; maintains streets.
Installs, repairs and maintains drainways, storm sewers, curbs, gutters and sidewalks; grades area; sets forms; pours and finishes concrete.
This position is considered an essential employee and may be required to work during an undeclared emergency and/or declared emergency. On an incident by incident basis, the employee's Department Director will make the determination as to who will be required to work.
Must be at least 18 years of age. Requires a high school diploma (or G.E.D.) and four (4) years’ experience operating complex heavy equipment including but not limited to, dump trucks, clam trucks, excavators, backhoes, front-end loaders, bobcats, bull dozers, arm tractor mowers, bush hog mowers, etc.
Requires a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) and must maintain an acceptable and safe driving record.
Must be able to obtain a Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification within 12 months of employment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Must be able to work on-call as needed and determined by the department.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
General knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and servicing heavy construction equipment.
Thorough knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation.
Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment; skill and care in the operation of several types of trucks, specialized maintenance and construction equipment.
Knowledge of basic mathematical principles including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages and measurements.
Ability to accurately calculate and measure depth, pipe size, and length.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; mechanical aptitude.
Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
